Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Karolinska University Hospital have signed a collaboration agreement on medical library services. From 1 July 2026, the Karolinska Institutet University Library (KIB) will provide library services for Karolinska University Hospital.

This initiative will strengthen KI’s collaborative mission, increase its visibility in clinical education and research, and enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver evidence-based university healthcare.

It also aligns with KIB’s mission to improve the ability to search for, evaluate and use scientific information, and to provide access to scientific literature and information resources.

“This agreement strengthens the cooperation between the hospital and the university. Having KIB closer to clinical practice will benefit both KI and the hospital. Through this exchange of knowledge, we can help advance both research and clinical work,” says Miriam Nauri, library director at Karolinska Institutet University Library.

“The collaboration agreement allows us to leverage the extensive capacity and expertise at KIB. Together with KI, we can offer our staff higher-quality, more accessible medical library services, while increasing integration between clinical operations and the academic environment,” says Olof Akre, director of Research, Education and Development at Karolinska University Hospital.

The hospital library will remain operational until 30 June 2026 while KIB prepares to take responsibility for library services.
