Virginia Stone receives an award from the Childhood Diabetes Foundation
We congratulate Virginia Stone, who has been awarded the 2023 Johnny Ludvigsson Prize for Younger Childhood Diabetes Researchers in Sweden.
Virginia Stone at the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Department of Medicine, Huddinge is awarded the prize of SEK 50,000 from Barndiabetesfonden (the Childhood Diabetes Foundation) for her work, which contributes to the development of a potential preventive treatment for type 1 diabetes.
The award committee's motivation reads:
"The prize is awarded to Dr Virginia Stone for her efforts to highlight the role of enteroviruses in type 1 diabetes, particularly the important preclinical testing of vaccines against enteroviruses and thus the development of a potentially preventive treatment for the disease."
- It is a great honour and privilege to receive the 2023 Johnny Ludvigsson Prize for young researchers in type 1 diabetes. We are working hard to fully understand the causes of this lifelong disease, and this award fills me with inspiration to continue my research efforts in the search for preventive treatments for type 1 diabetes, Virginia said in a press release from Barndiabetesfonden.
Professor Heikki Hyöty at the University of Tampere in Finland is awarded the Johnny Ludvigsson Nordic Prize of SEK 250,000.
