Two projects at KI SÖS receive educational project funding for 2027

Two projects at KI SÖS have been awarded KI’s Pedagogical Project Funding for 2027. The projects are led by Kristian Ängeby and Anders Sondén and focus on new ways to develop students’ learning in emergency care.
Kristian Ängeby, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Emergency Care, is leading a project to develop gamified virtual patient cases. Students will be able to practise making clinical decisions in emergency situations in a safe digital environment. The project will also develop a scenario generator that enables teachers to create their own patient cases. The tool is being developed in collaboration with the University of Skövde.
"In emergency care, it is difficult to control which situations students encounter. With virtual patient cases, we can give them more opportunities to practise making difficult decisions in a safe environment. It is very exciting that we now have the opportunity to develop this further", says Kristian Ängeby.
Focus on students’ learning environment in the emergency department
Anders Sondén, Associate Professor in Surgery and Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, is leading a project on student modules in emergency departments. The project will examine the organisational conditions required to implement and integrate student modules in emergency care over the long term. It will also study how learning is organised and takes shape in everyday clinical practice, with a particular focus on students’ participation, supervision and psychological safety, as well as patients’ autonomy.
"We want to understand what is needed to create sustainable clinical learning environments where students have good opportunities to take an active part in care and develop their skills, even in an intensive environment such as an emergency department. The funding enables us to study this at several healthcare organisations in Region Stockholm", says Anders Sondén.
