Proposal for a national knowledge hub to prevent sexual violence by focusing on risk groups

Karolinska Institutet is proposing, in partnership with Karolinska University Hospital, a national preventative drive aimed at people at risk of committing acts of sexual violence. One initiative is to set up a national knowledge hub.

Sexual violence is a widespread social problem that causes great suffering for children, young people and adults. In January 2020 the government granted funds to Karolinska University Hospital to look into how preventative work with people at a higher risk of committing acts of sexual violence could be improved. Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital are today submitting their joint report to the government with the following proposals:

  • To set up and finance a national knowledge hub at Karolinska Institutet on unwanted sexuality and the prevention of sexual violence.
  • To expand Karolinska University Hospital’s national PrevenTell helpline so that it reaches more people at a higher risk of committing acts of sexual violence and to tighten the chain between the helpline and national care services.
  • To announce an open call for a ring-fenced government grant for research into improving knowledge on effective treatments and other societal interventions that can prevent sexual violence.
