The application period for Karolinska Institutet’s programmes that start in January 2025 ended on 15 October. Educational programmes for professionals, for which applications closed on 15 September, also showed greater demand compared to the previous year.

The most significant increase in the number of applicants among KI’s undergraduate programmes, compared to the application period for the autumn semester of 2023, was seen in the occupational therapy programme. The increase was 46%. Furthermore, the number of first-choice applicants rose from 78 to 141 compared to the same period, marking an 81% increase.

“It is immensely gratifying to see a continued increase in applicants to the occupational therapy programme. The need for occupational therapists in Sweden is significant, and through efforts to raise the programme’s visibility via various channels, including student engagement, student ambassadors, and support from KI’s Professional Services, we have created conditions to meet this need. We are very much looking forward to educating the occupational therapists of the future,” says Anna Brorsson, programme director for the programme.

Education programmes for professionals

Several of KI’s twelve educational programmes for professionals improved the number of applicants compared to the application period of the autumn semester 2023. The distance learning specialist programme in nursing specialising in district nursing saw a 44% increase, the largest increase in first-choice applicants among these programmes.
