After several years of planning and construction, 316 new apartments are now ready for researchers and students at KI to move into. Collins Santhansamy is one of the newly arrived students at KI Residence Solna.

Ten years ago, it was decided that new apartments would be built on the campus in Solna, but due to appeals in the building permit process, construction could not start until 2018. In August 2021, the new apartments were completed and ready for people to take up residence.

"A major focus of this project has been the proximity between the apartments and the educational institutions. We have also prioritized common areas and that people should be able to meet and socialize. Building this on campus was of course a prerequisite," says Anders Flodin, Managing Director at KI Housing.

The apartments are being offered to both students and researchers following KI's priority model and thereafter to those who have been in the queue. One of the students who has now moved into KI Residence Solna is Collins Santhansamy.

"When I was looking for an apartment, I saw that there were brand new apartments near the campus area so I applied. So far I am very pleased, I like design of the space and the facilities that come with it. It is a sustainable building that is very eco friendly,” he says.

Collins lives in a so-called studio apartment with a shared kitchen, one of four apartment types. There are also studio apartments with a kitchenette, two-roomed apartments with private bedrooms and a shared kitchen and bathroom, as well as four-roomed apartments with private bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen.

"I can recommend KI Residence Solna. My tip for others looking for an apartment is to apply in good time. On KI Housing's website, you will find excellent information and guidance on finding a place to stay.”
