KI Professor Jonas F Ludvigsson re-elected as Scientific Chair of the Swedish Society of Medicine

On May 12, Jonas F Ludvigsson, professor at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and senior pediatrician at Örebro University Hospital was re-elected for another 3 years as Scientific Chair of the Swedish Society of Medicine.
The Swedish Society of Medicine is a non-profit organisation and a forum for discussing and developing health and health care by promoting medical research, ethics, education and quality.
During Ludvigsson's first term as scientific secretary he focused on extending the educational program activities of the Society. As part of that he organised several international lectures.
"Among the highlights was the 2024 visit by Professor Lord Ara Darzi, who was appointed to lead in investigation into the performance of English healthcare, the NHS", says Ludvigsson. "Darzi’s visit coincided with my own publication on the Swedish healthcare system", Ludvigsson continues. "I also very much enjoyed our evening meeting about cardiovascular health where the chair of "The Lancet Commission on rethinking coronary artery disease" Rasha Al-Lamee from Imperial college in London gave a talk. Other highlights concern evening seminars with international speakers on dementia and irritable bowel syndrome."
But Ludvigsson has also tried move fast when extraordinary health events have occurred.
"In the last year we have organised two lunch webinars within 24 hours: one about the meningococcal infections in Britain and the other one about Hantavirus", he adds. Both webinars were attended by more than 1000 physicians.
He is already now clear about what he wants to do as Scientific Secretary during his second term.
"Starting on September 9 this year, I am launching a series of eight lunch webinars about resilience in the Swedish healthcare system and how we can best handle a situation of war or crisis", says Ludvigsson. "I very much look forward to that webinar series."
"The Swedish Society of Medicine is the most important and respected medical scientific organisation in Sweden and provides a forum for clinicians, researchers as well as healthcare professionals. I believe that in engaging, in my case as the scientific secretary is an opportunity to shape the medical debate in Sweden, to improve the quality of Swedish healthcare, to the benefits of patients. That was why I chose to stand for re-election", says Jonas F Ludvigsson.
