KI leadership welcomes the KIRA panel’s recommendations – next steps initiated

The university management welcome the report from the international expert panel as part of the KI Research Assessment (KIRA 2025–2026). The review covers 13 departments at Campus Solna and Campus South and provides a valuable, consolidated basis for the continued work to develop the conditions for research at KI.

The panel’s overall report confirms KI’s strong scientific position, while also highlighting areas where further development and increased coordination are needed.

"We view the report as an important support for strategic development and as a key input for the continued effort to further strengthen research at KI. Several of the identified development areas align with ongoing initiatives and priorities at KI, while the report also makes an important contribution to the discussion and coordination of this work," says Vice President Martin Bergö

Following the seminar, the discussions will be summarised and used as input for the continued work to formulate a consolidated plan for how the recommendations will be translated into concrete development.

Ongoing analysis and continued work

A comprehensive review of all recommendations from the international panel has been initiated, with a focus on:

  • identifying development areas at the overarching KI level
  • analysing their relation to ongoing initiatives and strategic investments
  • assessing the need for further preparation.

This process needs to be carried out within the framework of KI’s regular governance, in order to be gradually integrated into the ongoing operational planning in the next stage.

Link to departmental work

At the same time, departments are updating their action plans based on the panel’s feedback. These action plans will form an integral part of departmental operational planning in the coming years and thus represent an important starting point for the continued development work at KI.

The KIRA seminar on 17 June

The annual KIRA seminar on 17 June constitutes the next step in the process, as part of the continued dialogue on how the work with KIRA and the panel’s recommendations should be taken forward.

The agenda includes:

  • the KIRA process
  • departmental action plans
  • work on the overarching recommendations

The seminar is part of a broader dialogue within KI on how best to utilise the results in the continued development work.

Continued work

Following the seminar, the discussions will be summarised and used as input for the continued work. In early autumn, we will formulate a consolidated plan for how the recommendations will be translated into concrete development.

This work will be integrated into KI’s regular operational planning and followed up within existing processes, including the annual KIRA seminar.

The experiences from KIRA 2025–2026 will also be taken into account as Campus North prepares to initiate a corresponding process in 2026–2027.
