Josefine Waldthaler appointed as docent in neurology

The Docent Committee decided on 19 May 2026 to appoint Josefine Waldthaler as docent in neurology.

Josefine Waldthaler is a team leader in Daniel Lundqvist’s research group at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, the Division of Neuro. She holds a doctorate in neurology from the University of Regensburg, with a thesis on optimising deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, as well as postdoctoral training at the University of Marburg on eye-tracking and EEG as biomarkers, followed by work at Karolinska Institutet on magnetoencephalography (MEG) in Parkinson’s disease.
Josefine Waldthaler’s research focuses on neurophysiological biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease, where she uses MEG to study beta oscillations and cortical compensation mechanisms in the brain. Her research has been funded by grants from, among others, the Swedish Research Council, the Behring Röntgen Foundation, and the German Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF).
She combines her research with clinical work as a movement disorders specialist at the Academic Specialist Centre in Stockholm.
We congratulate Josefine Waldthaler on her new title of docent and associate professor!
