The Neuroförbundet's Neuroprofile of the Year award recognizes individuals who, through their profession, have made a significant difference to people with neurological diagnoses. This year, the winner was chosen by the Neuroförbundet's own members, who voted on social media.

The motivation for this year's winner is as follows (from the Neuroförbundet's press release):

Fredrik Piehl, professor of neurology and researcher at Karolinska University Hospital, has made significant progress in neurological research. His research group at the Karolinska Institute focuses on inflammatory diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. Over the past decade, they have conducted groundbreaking studies comparing the efficacy and safety of rituximab for MS treatment, showing promising results with a good benefit-risk balance.  Piehl's research also extends to other areas such as myasthenia gravis (MG), psychiatric conditions and traumatic brain injuries. As a dedicated physician, he combines patient work with regular lectures, where he shares his extensive knowledge in neurology. In addition to his long-standing involvement in the Research Committee of the Swedish Neurological Association, he is also the registrar of the quality register for MG within the Swedish Neuroregister, which further contributes to the development of neurological care in Sweden.

"I am deeply honored! My main goal with research is to improve healthcare and address issues that are important to our patients. I see this award as a confirmation that we are on the right track,” says Fredrik Piehl.

Congratulations to Fredrik Piehl on a very well-deserved award.
