On 5 November, a special annual ceremony was held in Aula Medica. Thirteen international master’s students from eleven different countries were honoured with Karolinska Institutet’s Global Master's Scholarship.

Programme directors, master’s programme managers, representatives from the International Office, KI’s student communication and of course, KI’s president gathered in the impressive campus Solna building together with the awardees and their guests to celebrate. This year, 5855 students applied for a global master’s programme at KI, 387 students are enrolled, and 13 scholarships were awarded.

“It was magical to get the call at first and to be here today. It feels amazing to be a part of Karolinska Institutet and especially to receive the scholarship award.” says Mahya Karami, a scholarship recipient studying the master’s programme in nutritional science.

Present to hand over the scholarship holders’ diplomas was KI’s President Annika Östman Wernerson. In her speech, she highlighted “KI is us”, the motto she came up with when she was inaugurated almost two years ago. It means that no student is alone, no matter how far away from home one might feel, be it geographically or emotionally. Annika Östman Wernerson also stressed the fact that medical science has no boundaries. Age, gender, nationality or socioeconomic status does not matter when it comes to our common passion: medical science and health care.

Another highlight was the Nobel lecture given by Abdel El Manira, professor and member of the Nobel Committee. The evening was concluded with dinner at Café Jorpes for the ceremony attendees.
