This talk will review why neuroprotection for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in neonates in high-income countries does not translate to low-and middle-income countries and how hypothermia for moderate or severe is not the answer. Non-cooling approaches that are ongoing will be discussed along with attempts at prevention of encephalopathy
