Lectures and seminars Establishing and operating a Vinnova funded centre – insights from the NextGenNK Centre
You are warmly invited to a lecture held as part of a preparatory series ahead of the upcoming call from the Swedish Research Council and Vinnova on Excellence Clusters for Groundbreaking Technologies. This national initiative aims to strengthen Sweden’s position in strategically important technology areas by building powerful, world‑leading research and innovation environments capable of shaping the technologies of the future.
This lecture takes its starting point in the experience of NextGenNK, Karolinska Institutet’s Vinnova‑funded competence centre dedicated to next‑generation NK cell–based cancer immunotherapies. The centre, run in close collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and a broad network of industry partners, offers a strong example of how a strategic and sustainable research centre can be successfully designed, established, and led.
Speaker: Hans‑Gustaf Ljunggren, Professor of Infection Medicine at Karolinska Institutet and Director of NextGenNK. He is an internationally recognised immunologist with a long‑standing focus on NK‑cell biology and extensive experience in building high‑impact research environments. As a member of the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet and a central figure behind NextGenNK, he will share concrete lessons and strategic insights highly relevant for those preparing to engage in the upcoming excellence cluster call.
This lecture is an opportunity to gain inspiration and practical guidance on what it takes to develop research environments that combine scientific excellence with societal relevance — and to contribute to shaping Sweden’s next major investments in groundbreaking technologies.
