Apply for Seed Grants for Intra-Africa Collaborative Research Projects between Sweden, South Africa and 19 other African countries

SASUF+ invites researchers at partner universities to apply for seed grants supporting new multilateral collaborations between Sweden, South Africa, and 19 other African countries. Projects run March 2027–July 2028. Apply by 3 November 2026.

Through the South Africa–Sweden University Forum, SASUF+, researchers at SASUF partner universities can now apply for seed funding for new multilateral research collaborations between universities in Sweden, South Africa, and the 19 additional African countries participating in the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI):

  • Burkina Faso
  • Côte d'Ivoire
  • Ethiopia
  • Ghana
  • Kenya
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Nigeria
  • Rwanda
  • Senegal
  • Sierra Leone,
  • Tanzania
  • Togo
  • Uganda
  • Zambia,
  • or Zimbabwe.

Projects will be funded for 16 months, from 1 March 2027 until 1 July 2028. Deadline is November 3, 2026.

The South Africa–Sweden University Forum, SASUF+

SASUF is a strategic internationalisation project uniting universities from Sweden and South Africa. SASUF was launched in 2017, with the overall aim to strengthen the collaboration in education, research and innovation between Sweden and South Africa.
