Anders Tegnell gets the BiotechBuilders Award 2023
Former state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell has been awarded the BiotechBuilders Award 2023 for his efforts during the pandemic 2020-2023. The prize is awarded by the non-profit association Stockholm BiotechBuilders, to which KI is a partner and which works to strengthen the Swedish life science sector.
- We are very pleased to be able to recognize Anders Tegnell for his steadfast efforts during the pandemic, says Carl Johan Sundberg, Head of the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME), initiator and chairman of Stockholm BiotechBuilders.
- It is a great honour and especially gratifying that you have acknowledged this and not just the usual establishments in healthcare, says Dr. Anders Tegnell.
The motivation reads: For most of us, he is best known for television, where he stood firm during the Covid-19 pandemic. He was beloved but also heavily questioned when the pandemic hit its peak worldwide. Despite all the attention, he managed to remain steadfast in the media storm and delivered a thoughtful and coherent message despite limited information.
Anders Tegnell has probably inspired many students to want to become infectious disease doctors.
The BiotechBuilders Award is given out by the non-profit organization Stockholm BiotechBuilders Association, which brings together researchers, decision-makers and leaders from the private sector/industry with the aim of strengthening Swedish life science. The award is giving to individuals who tackle challenges and overcome obstacles, making significant contributions to the industry and future research.
