The Rockefeller University: Nicholson Lecture and Nicholson exchange programs

Karolinska Institutet collaboration with Rockefeller University, which includes short-term staff and postdoc training exchanges, as well as the Nicholson Lecture. Calls are now open and Nicholson Lecture with Professor Luciano Marraffini will be held on Thursday.

The Rockefeller University is a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in biomedical sciences, chemistry, bioinformatics, and physics. With 80 laboratories, the university conducts both clinical and basic research, addressing a diverse range of biological and biomedical problems. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of life for the benefit of humanity.

Karolinska Institutet has an extensive cooperation agreement with Rockefeller University, which includes short-term staff and postdoc training exchanges, as well as the Nicholson Lecture.

Nicholson Lecture 2024

This year, Karolinska Institutet is honored to welcome Professor Luciano Marraffini from Rockefeller University as the Nicholson Lecturer.

Luciano Marraffini joined the Rockefeller faculty in 2010, and is a Rita Allen Foundation Scholar, a Searle Scholar, and a recipient of the NIH Director’s New Innovator and Pioneer Awards. Since 2018, Luciano has been an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and in 2019 was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

Professor Maraffini and his lab investigates the molecular mechanisms by which CRISPR-Cas systems provide bacteria and archaea with adaptive immunity against viral and plasmid infections.

Rockefeller University and Karolinska Institutet announce the availability of funds for exchange positions. These positions allow KI researchers, students, and other individuals to work in laboratories, resource centers, or administrative offices for up to 12 weeks. Additionally, there is funding available for one postdoctoral training position in basic science at Rockefeller University in New York City, USA.
