What does it involve?

A muscle biopsy is taken from the thigh when at rest. The procedure involves a small incision in the skin that is made under local anesthesia. A needle is then inserted into the muscle to extract a tiny tissue sample. The incision is so small that no stitches are required, and the wound is simply closed. You can return to your usual physical activity and exercise right after the sample is taken.

  • Time required: approx. 30 min
  • Location: Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge
