Participants in KI's dementia training programme received diplomas from the Queen
On 3 September, H.M. The Queen presented diplomas to participants who had completed the course Dementia from Cell to Society. The ceremony was held at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre and recognised a new group of professionals who had deepened their knowledge of dementia diseases, approaches to care, and support for people with dementia.
The graduation ceremony marked the conclusion of the latest round of KI’s professional education course Dementia disease from cell to society, delivered in collaboration with Stiftelsen Silviahemmet.
The course is aimed at dentists, dental hygienists, dietitians, speech and language therapists, and audiologists. The multiprofessional approach gives participants a deeper understanding of how different professions can work together to meet the needs of people living with dementia.
At the ceremony, KI President Annika Östman Wernerson highlighted the importance of interprofessional teams in dementia care.
“It is invaluable for everyone in an interprofessional team to have strong knowledge and deep insight into the specific needs of patients, particularly in dementia care,” she emphasised.
The participants become ambassadors for greater knowledge
Among this year’s graduates was Anneli Steinholtz, a dietitian working in Falun Municipality. In her speech, she emphasised the responsibility that comes with the expertise she has gained.
”We who have now graduated have an important role to play, both in our professional capacities and as fellow human beings. Through our knowledge, we can serve as ambassadors for a more understanding and dementia-friendly society.”
Dentist Ewa Bisztyga, who works at the Public Dental Service in Örebro, also graduated at the ceremony. This year’s participants now form part of a growing group of professionals who, through KI:s training programmes in dementia, have gained deeper knowledge of dementia care and how care services can be developed from a person-centred perspective.
