KI has been approved continued funding from the Swedish Institute (SI) to implement two capacity building training programmes for professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa. The programmes, which have been running since 2020, will be offered online during 2022 - 2023.

Karolinska Institutet will soon be offering a preparatory course for doctors trained outside the EU/EES. The course is being arranged at the request of the Swedish Medical Association, which has been awarded a grant of SEK 5.7 million from the Swedish Public Employment Service to help overseas-trained doctors pass the proficiency test for licensing in Sweden.

With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 40 professionals, in maternal and child health care and nutrition in Sub-Saharan African countries, will receive training comprising of 7.5 credits from Karolinska Institutet. The training programme is fully online and runs from August until September 2020.

Two weeks ago Karolinska Institutet launched two COVID-19 courses in Swedish for care providers, medical personnel and providers of social services and care of elderly as well as personnel working in connection to these services, following a request from the National Board of Health and Welfare. So far over 65 000 people have completed the courses. Now both courses are available in English. The first course is also available in Arabic, Persian and Russian.

The post-doctoral programme for leading research, Pro Futura Scientia, provides promising young European researchers financing for independent research. The 15 participants of the 2019-2020 programme have also been offered a leadership programme, Leadership in Academia, given by Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences).
