Meet our new Erasmus Institutional Coordinator: Mia Brandelius

What inspired you to take on this role?

I have worked with international education in different roles since taking my first job as an international coordinator while still in law school. After working at Stockholm University and then at KTH Royal Institute of Technology for more than 16 years, I spent a couple of years outside the sector. When I saw that KI was looking for an Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, I immediately felt I had to seize the opportunity to return to what truly lies close to my heart: education.

What is your best tip for students considering an exchange?

Having been an international student myself when I went to the United States as a scholar, I know how much an international experience can influence your outlook on life. Over the years, both through my own experiences and through meeting thousands of students, staff and academics involved in international mobility, I have seen how even challenging cultural differences can lead to personal growth. My advice is to explore the opportunities available, seek guidance from your home and host institutions, and trust the process. International mobility almost always brings valuable personal and professional development.

What are you most looking forward to this academic year?

I look forward to getting to know KI, meeting students and colleagues, and learning more about the inner workings of this remarkable institution. KI already has a strong foundation in international education and mobility, and I hope to contribute to its continued development, both qualitatively and perhaps quantitatively. Most of all, I look forward to becoming a familiar face and someone people can turn to for reliable, professional and warm guidance. I have a feeling it will be a very inspiring year.
