In a significant step for European collaboration in neuroscience and technological innovation, the Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) has officially joined The European University of Brain and Technology – NeurotechEU.

A growing European alliance

Karolinska Institutet (KI) has been a member of NeurotechEU since its launch. With MUI now joining, the alliance expands its geographical footprint and adds a strong partner with expertise spanning medicine, neurology, and artificial intelligence.

MUI’s entry into NeurotechEU was announced at the alliance’s General Assembly in May 2025, where the university presented its research profile at the intersection of basic science, clinical medicine, and neurotechnology.

With the inclusion of Innsbruck, NeurotechEU now unites nine leading European universities in a dynamic and forward-looking alliance committed to advancing the frontiers of brain and technology research. This expansion highlights the consortium’s shared ambition to drive the next generation of neuroscience education, research, and innovation across Europe.

Strengthening collaboration opportunities for KI

For KI students and researchers, the expansion of NeurotechEU means broader access to partners and expertise across Europe. The inclusion of a strong clinical university such as MUI reinforces the alliance’s mission to bridge neuroscience and technology with health and innovation.
