We congratulate Kristina Sonnevi at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, on her appointment as Docent in Hematology on 15 September 2026.

What does this appointment mean to you?

Being appointed Docent at KI is something I am proud of. It confirms that it is possible to continue with research and teaching while also working in a leadership role within healthcare. I believe this is important, particularly at a university hospital.

What do you hope to achieve in your new role as Docent?

I see this as an opportunity to remain active in science and continue contributing to teaching and the education of doctoral students and undergraduates. In my current role as Head of the Centre for Clinical Cancer Studies, I work to integrate research and clinical trials into routine healthcare, and there are clear advantages to being actively engaged in both research at KI and clinical work at the hospital. This also applies to the cross-sectoral work carried out within the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center, for example in the field of precision medicine.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

I am involved in several clinical trials in the field of lymphoma, as well as precision medicine studies evaluating comprehensive molecular profiling in aggressive B-cell lymphomas. These studies include investigating whether tumour biopsies can, to some extent, be replaced by blood samples for the analysis of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA).
