Kristiina Tammimies, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor of Medical Genetics at Karolinska Institutet, has been appointed Vice Chair of the steering group for the Strategic Research Area in Neuroscience (StratNeuro). The decision was made by the Committee for Research in connection with the new term of office that commenced in January 2026.

Karolinska Institutet’s strategic research areas are led by steering groups responsible for advancing and coordinating research. StratNeuro is one of Karolinska Institutet’s strategic research areas and is overseen by a steering group tasked with supporting and developing neuroscience research. In conjunction with a new three-year term of office, the Committee for Research appointed Kristiina Tammimies as Vice Chair. The mandate took effect on 1 January 2026.

“I am very grateful for the confidence placed in me to step into the role of Vice Chair of StratNeuro. StratNeuro is instrumental in bringing together and supporting neuroscience researchers at KI, and I look forward to continuing this work together with the Chair and the steering group,” says Kristiina.

Kristiina Tammimies is based at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health and leads a research group focusing on neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. Her research aims to understand the genetic and molecular factors underlying conditions such as autism, ADHD and developmental language disorder. By integrating clinical, genetic and molecular data, her group investigates how genetic variation influences symptoms, severity and treatment outcomes. The research also seeks to identify biological and cellular mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric conditions, as well as how genetic and environmental factors interact during brain development.
