Training programmes for professionals supporting the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development

The aim of SI:s Public Sector Innovation Programme is to strengthen the capacity of professionals to contribute to innovation in the public sector and to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

During summer of 2020, the two training programmes implemented by KI will start with a kickoff online with participants from several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their focus is how to lead and organise for innovation, develop smart welfare services, and/or provide an inclusive service design with sustainable, efficient and effective services.

The programmes, which are implemented by the Department of Global Public Health and the Department of Women's and Children's Health, will be delivered mainly online, but if the situation allows, physical meetings and study visits in respective country will be facilitated. Both programmes build on the newly initiated Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH), a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet (KI), Makerere University (Mak) and other African academic partners.

-Well-functioning leadership and management is essential to build a brighter, healthier future for women and children globally, not least today in the light of the pandemic, explains Helena Lindgren, course leader and associate professor at the Department of Women's and Children's Health.

The following training programmes will be implemented by KI within SI:s Public Sector Innovation Programme during 2020-2021.

  • “Developing capacity in the public sector for successful multisectoral and innovative work to strengthen both preventive and curative health care in fragile settings. Countries: Uganda, Kongo and Somalia”, implemented by the Department of Global Public Health
  • “Capacitate public sector faculty in the field of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in three Sub-Saharan African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya and Malawi”, implemented by the Department of Women's and Children's Health
