Juan Pablo Lopez appointed FENS-Kavli Scholar 2026

Juan Pablo Lopez, assistant professor at the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, has been selected as a 2026 FENS-Kavli Scholar, a distinction presented to a small number of outstanding European neuroscience researchers in the early or middle stages of their careers.
The FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) is an international network of 30 researchers recognised for their scientific excellence, originality, and leadership. The newly selected cohort includes 15 researchers representing 12 European countries, who will join the current Scholars to help shape the future of neuroscience through collaboration, advocacy and interdisciplinary exchange. With this appointment, Juan Pablo Lopez becomes the first researcher in Sweden to be named a FENS-Kavli Scholar.

"It is a great honour to join the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence. To me, this recognition reflects not only my work, but also the collaborative environment that supports it. I am especially excited about the opportunity to engage with outstanding colleagues across Europe and to contribute to shaping the future of neuroscience together, while also helping to represent and connect Swedish neuroscience within this broader European community."
The programme supports emerging scientific leaders in advancing discovery-driven brain research, while promoting international collaboration and engagement with society.
Juan Pablo Lopez leads the Neurobiology of Stress and Treatment Response group at Karolinska Institutet, where his research focuses on understanding how stress affects brain function and how novel treatments can promote recovery in stress-related psychiatric disorders.
The official announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the FENS Forum 2026. The names and profiles of all FKNE fellows can be found on the FENS-Kavli Scholars webpage.
