Full house at Open Day – strong interest in KI’s programmes

Tiba Witwit and Ninni Sylenius answered questions about the radiography nursing programme.

On Wednesday 25 March, Karolinska Institutet opened the doors of Zanderska huset for this year’s Open Day. Interest was high, and there was a steady flow of visitors keen to ask questions to students from KI’s undergraduate programmes.

Among the visitors were both those who have already applied for autumn courses and those still considering their options – or simply wanting to learn more about what it is like to study at KI.

Nafi Ahammed and Atry Alam Mir, both in their final year of upper secondary school, were among the visitors.

“I’ve already applied for autumn and hope to get into the medical programme. My dream would be to work as a surgeon,” says Nafi Ahammed, who studies science.

“I’m also interested in the medical programme, but I’ll first complete my military service this autumn,” says Atry Alam Mir, who studies engineering.

High demand and many curious visitors

Throughout the venue, student representatives, study advisers and student unions were available at their stands, answering many questions from interested visitors. There was particularly strong interest at the stand for the radiography programme.

“Many people ask what a radiographer does and about the difference between our programme and the nursing programme,” say Tiba Witwit and Ninni Sylenius, who are training to become radiographers.

Ayesha Asjad, who studies science at Widerströmska Upper Secondary School, also attended. She is interested in both the audiology programme and the medical programme.

“I’ve received helpful information about how to apply, through grades, the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test, and PIL (an entrance test and interview-based selection for the medical programme),” she says.

Campus tours

During the afternoon, guided campus tours were offered. Together with students, visitors explored KI’s University Library (KIB) and saw the available study spaces. They also visited the gym, where students and staff can exercise free of charge, as well as places to sit and study or have lunch.

Visitors could also look inside some of the programmes, including the radiography programme with a VR simulation, the speech and language pathology programme, and the audiology programme’s laboratory.

More visitors and activities

“Both we at KI and our colleagues at the other universities on the Flemingsberg campus experienced higher attendance than in previous years, which we’re very pleased about. This year we also offered more activities than before – everything from a VR simulation in the radiography lab to tours of our campus gym,” says Tom Bramler, who coordinated this year’s Open Day.
