Lectures and seminars The chase within studying innate immune responses against bacterial interuders using intravital microscopy

Welcome to a seminar with Ajitha Thanabalasuriar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
My research aims to unravel how immune cells respond to infections. In my group, we use intravital microscopy to observe the behavior of innate immune cells in real time. Our findings challenge the traditional view that alveolar macrophages respond to infections solely through phagocytosis. In the case of Streptococcus pneumoniae, we have discovered that these macrophages can undergo a form of programmed cell death, releasing their intracellular contents.
In my talk, I will present our latest insights into this process of alveolar macrophage–mediated infection control, along with novel imaging approaches we’ve developed in the lab, including techniques for visualizing the bone marrow in live animals.
