Title

Risk and risk reduction for prevention of breast cancer.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers affecting women worldwide. By identifying a group of women at high risk, targeted therapies have the potential to reduce their risk of breast cancer. I will talk on current and future research in the field including the introduction and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) using mammographic data into the field. By tapping into the available mammographic screening infrastructure to capture risk patterns, we can move beyond the traditional focus on women with a strong family history and expand risk assessment to the wider screening population. I will also touch upon clinical trials using low-dose endocrine treatment for risk reduction in healthy women.

About the speaker

Mikael Eriksson is assistant professor at MEB and is also affiliated with Cambridge University. His research focuses on developing tools to identify women at increased risk of breast cancer in both primary and secondary prevention. He also develops models to predict response to endocrine treatment, essentially to figure out which high-risk women are most likely to benefit from risk reducing therapies.

Faculty lunch

Join the faculty event in Wargentin! After the seminar, the faculty lunch will be served in Ljusgården. The faculty lunches are intended for employees at MEB, and a monthly net salary deduction of 260 SEK will be made for those who work here 20% or more. If you have any questions about the lunch or specific dietary needs due to allergies, etc., please contact internservice@meb.ki.se. If you won’t be participating in the lunches for all or part of the spring term, our new routine is that you need to contact hr-support@meb.ki.se at the start of a new term, to be removed from the list. Retroactive adjustments will not be possible.

Please, check the labeling on the salads not to take special diet foods that were pre-ordered by your colleagues.
