Title

Decoding Biological Aging to Predict Dementia

Abstract

I will present recent work using the UK Biobank to develop and validate AI-driven predictive models for all-cause dementia, healthspan, and longevity that integrate genomic profiles, multi-omics layers, and validated biological aging markers. I’ll show how these models stratify individuals into actionable risk profiles and highlight key findings from unsupervised clustering analyses that explore how commonly prescribed drugs (e.g., atorvastatin, simvastatin, warfarin, metformin, and cholinesterase inhibitors) associate with cognitive trajectories in dementia.

About the speaker

Shayan Mostafaei is a bioinformatician in the Molecular Epidemiology of Aging division at MEB, Karolinska Institutet, led by Sara Hägg. His research focuses on data-driven estimation of biological age and on integrating high-dimensional genomics and multi-omics with machine learning to advance understanding of aging-related disease risk. He holds a PhD in Biostatistics and specializes in machine-learning applications to dementia research.

Faculty lunch

Join the faculty event in Wargentin! After the seminar, the faculty lunch will be served in Ljusgården. The faculty lunches are intended for employees at MEB, and a monthly net salary deduction of 260 SEK will be made for those who work here 20% or more. If you have any questions about the lunch or specific dietary needs due to allergies, etc., please contact internservice@meb.ki.se. If you won’t be participating in the lunches for all or part of the spring term, our new routine is that you need to contact hr-support@meb.ki.se at the start of a new term, to be removed from the list. Retroactive adjustments will not be possible.

Please, check the labeling on the salads not to take special diet foods that were pre-ordered by your colleagues.
