Lectures and seminars Faculty event: Shayan Mostafaei
Speaker: Shayan Mostafaei
Title
Biological Aging and Dementia
Abstract
I will present recent work on the development of predictive models for all-cause dementia, healthspan, and longevity using data from the UK Biobank. By integrating genomic profiles, multi-omics datasets, and validated biological aging (BA) biomarkers, I demonstrate how AI can be used to stratify individuals based on comprehensive risk profiles. Additionally, I will review my latest unsupervised clustering analyses investigating the impact of widely prescribed medications such as atorvastatin, simvastatin, warfarin, metformin, and cholinesterase inhibitors on cognitive trajectories in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and mixed dementia.
About the speaker
Shayan Mostafaei is a bioinformatician in the Molecular Epidemiology of Aging group at MEB, led by Sara Hägg. My research focuses on data-driven estimation of biological age and understanding aging-related disease risk. He holds a PhD in Biostatistics, with a specialization in machine learning applications to dementia research.
Faculty lunch
Join the faculty event in Wargentin! After the seminar, the faculty lunch will be served in Ljusgården. The faculty lunches are intended for employees at MEB, and a monthly net salary deduction of 260 SEK will be made for those who work here 20% or more. If you have any questions about the lunch or specific dietary needs due to allergies, etc., please contact internservice@meb.ki.se. If you won’t be participating in the lunches for all or part of the spring term, our new routine is that you need to contact hr-support@meb.ki.se at the start of a new term, to be removed from the list. Retroactive adjustments will not be possible.
