Title
KI Biobank – a Unique Research Integrated Biobank at KI
Abstract
Current and future medical research is increasingly dependent on human samples. Biobanking is a vital part of medical research as it ensures that samples donated by patients and study participants for research are collected and used in a structured and secure way and compliant with existing laws and regulations.
Karolinska Institutet Biobank (KI Biobank) is a research-integrated biobank uniquely capable of tailoring the processing of human samples to meet research requirements. By adopting flexibility and adaptability in automation and data management, KI Biobank offers processing for a wide range of sample and tube types, currently handling 80 sample types (e.g. plasma, saliva, viable cells) and 70 tube types. Upon arrival, samples undergo specific treatments before storage including automated sample processing, storage, and data management. It stands out in Sweden for integrating comprehensive pre-processing protocols into its automation system.
KI Biobank services help KI researchers in all aspects of biobanking including regulatory and ethical-legal compliance, data management, and sample collection and processing. These services enable researchers to initiate new studies quickly, securely, and efficiently, using KI Biobank´s specialized knowledge, equipment, IT tools, and facilities.
There are right now many different initiatives ongoing at KI that aim at alternative organisational structure regarding core facilities including KI Biobank. During this presentation I will present KI Biobank and those initiatives, in the context of medical research at KI today.
Faculty lunch
Join the faculty event in Wargentin! After the seminar, the faculty lunch will be served in Ljusgården. The faculty lunches are intended for employees at MEB, and a monthly net salary deduction of 260 SEK will be made for those who work here 20% or more. If you have any questions about the lunch or specific dietary needs due to allergies, etc., please contact internservice@meb.ki.se. If you won’t be participating in the lunches for all or part of the spring term, our new routine is that you need to contact hr-support@meb.ki.se at the start of a new term, to be removed from the list. Retroactive adjustments will not be possible.
Please, check the labeling on the salads not to take special diet foods that were pre-ordered by your colleagues.
