Title: X chromosome abundance is associated with breast cancer risk

During normal aging, blood bound immune cells can acquire a mosaic loss of one or multiple chromosomes. Previous studies have indicated that mosaic loss of the Y chromosome (mLOY) in males is involved in numerous age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and cancer as well as in auto-immune diseases. However, little is known about the role of mosaic X chromosome abundance in cancer, specifically in breast cancer (BC). In this study, we have investigated the role of X chromosome abundance on breast cancer risk, prognosis and aggressivity and bioinformatically characterized the functional consequence in tumors.
