The Center for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (CBB) presents a bioinformatics seminar.

Title: AI Agents for Biomedical Research – From Analysis to Clinical Decision Support

Speaker: Mahbub Ul Alam, Data Engineer (AI) at the SciLifeLab Data Centre

AI agents are autonomous systems that combine large language models with specialized tools and databases. They are rapidly reshaping how researchers interact with biomedical data. Unlike standard chatbots, these agents can query gene databases, analyze omics datasets, explore drug interactions, and even simulate expert consultations while providing traceable, source-backed outputs.

In this seminar, we will explore the emerging landscape of AI agents for biomedical and clinical research, including tools for omics analysis, drug discovery, knowledge graph querying, and clinical decision support. We will discuss what distinguishes AI agents from conventional LLM-based tools, review practical examples currently available to researchers, and address key considerations around data privacy, GDPR compliance, and responsible use when working with sensitive patient data.

The talk is designed to be accessible to researchers at all levels of AI familiarity and will include guidance on how to evaluate and get started with these tools in your own research workflows.

Before the seminar, a limited number of sandwiches and drinks will be served on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 12:00. Arrive early to network with colleagues.
