Bjørt Kragesteen appointed "Research leader of the future"

The Foundation for Strategic Research has appointed Assistant Professor Bjørt Katrinardóttir Kragesteen at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics as one of the Research Leaders of the Future. A total of 213 applications were received, of which 16 were selected. The researchers will receive a grant of SEK 15 million each over five years and will participate in a comprehensive leadership training program.

"This is a flagship program for future research leaders from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. It’s a fantastic grant and opportunity that provides a 15M SEK grant covering 5 years and provides extensive leadership training and networking opportunities across Sweden and abroad."
What does it mean for you and your research to get this appointment?
"As a new group leader at Karolinska Institutet, the grant provides a transformative opportunity to grow my team to pursue the scientific ideas and execute the interdisciplinary research program to decipher molecular circuits governing oxygen homeostasis and hypoxia responses. Moreover, as a new researcher in Sweden, this program presents a great opportunity to expand my network across Swedish academia and industry. Finally, the leadership training program will fuel the continuous development of my leadership skills to train the next generation of scientists and to grow a sustainable research culture in the lab and beyond."
