Welcome to FyFa Jonas Enqvist!

Jonas Enqvist is back at KI – 20 years after he first studied physiology at FyFa. Now he will support the development of FyFa's new lab in extreme physiology.
On Monday, Jonas Enqvist started at FyFa on a one-year project where he will contribute to the development of FyFa's new HumanLab, focusing on advanced studies of humans. Particular focus will be placed on building FyFa's new lab for performance and physiology in extreme environments, which will be located at Berzelius väg 13 – more information about this will come! For Jonas, this is something of a return – 20 years ago, he studied physiology at KI, and now he is back with both experience and enthusiasm.
“I got off at my old bus stop but didn’t recognise anything! KI has developed enormously, but its solid history still permeates the area and I have several old acquaintances here,” says Jonas Enqvist.
Background in sports science
Jonas Enqvist holds a PhD in biomechanics from GIH and has a solid background in sports science, including as an advisor to the Swedish Ski Association. He has started several laboratories and has worked with a focus on physiological performance optimisation.
"I usually say that I am somewhere between a researcher and an end user. I want research to be useful, applicable and contribute to real change," says Jonas Enqvist.
The assignment at FyFa
At FyFa, Jonas Enqvist will initially focus on inventorying and updating equipment and infrastructure in the field of extreme and environmental physiology. The assignment is also linked to FyFa's role as host department for the Defence-related Medicine platform.
Head of Department Sophie Erhardt comments on the recruitment:
"We are now entering a crucial phase in the development of infrastructure for both our long-planned HumanLab and what will become a new lab for performance and physiology in extreme environments. We need to plan in detail what equipment and infrastructure will be required. We want the two labs to work in synergy with each other. To support this, I have brought in Jonas Enqvist, who has extensive experience of working with elite athletes and building similar labs, to lead the project."
Driven by challenges
Jonas describes himself as curious and driven by challenges. He is used to being active in the environments he researches, and likes to lead by setting a good example.
