Updated keywords - better visibility!

During the spring, KI RIMS and the bibliometric system were updated with the revised standard for the Swedish classification of research fields, SSIF2025, from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Higher Education Authority. The updated research fields have been added to profiles and groups in KI RIMS and publications in the bibliometric system. The MeSH from NLM is also updated and the new subject headings for 2025 are available in KI RIMS,, so now is a good time to check the keywords on your profile.

The standard for the Swedish classification of research fields is a classification of research fields established by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) and Statistics Sweden (SCB). The previous standard from 2011 has been revised and the new one, SSIF2025, will apply from 2025.

The SSIF2025 includes some completely new topics, while others have been removed or renamed. In medicine, several new topics have been added, including medical biostatistics. At the same time, some topics have been split; for example, epidemiology becomes a separate topic instead of being part of public health, global health and social medicine. In addition, urology and nephrology are now separate subjects. These are just some of the changes that have taken place. You can read more about SSIF2025 and see the full list of research topics on the SCB website (only available in swedish).

During the spring, KI RIMS and the bibliometric system were updated with all the new subject headings and classes. In KI RIMS they are updated for persons and groups and in the bibliometric system for publications.

Every year the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in the US updates its Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), and the 2025 update is now available in KI RIMS and the bibliometrics database. A selection of the new terms can be found on the KIB website; not surprisingly, several of the new terms are related to AI. MeSH terms for your profile or group cannot be retrieved automatically from any system, you must check them yourself in KI RIMS. So now is a good time to check the keywords on your profile and research group page!

Why put keywords on your profile?

As well as helping to improve the analysis and reporting of KI's research, you will also be easier to find for others looking for active researchers in particular areas.

You update your keywords (labels) on your profile in KI RIMS. Instructions are available on the KI RIMS pages. If you have any questions, please contact the support team via kib@ki.se

Why fixed vocabularies and why SSIF and MeSH?

The use of fixed vocabulary makes it easier and more stable to map the research conducted at KI. SSIF2025 is the statistical standard that has been decided upon for the classification of research subjects and is used in official statistics for universities and colleges in Sweden. This standard does not only cover medicine and is rather coarse and is therefore supplemented with MeSH from NLM.
