In honor of the editor of the first edition, Professor Emerita Margareta Blombäck, the book is now renamed Blombäck's Essential Guide to Blood Coagulation. The content has been updated with new investigation and treatment options.

Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital have a long tradition of coagulation research that began with Erik Jorpe's (1894-1973) research on heparin.

"Professor Blombäck was actually Erik Jorpe's doctoral student, and she became one of several pioneers in our field of coagulation, which has contributed to Sweden's strong role in the field", says Jovan Antovic, one of the editors of the new edition.

The book Blombäck Essential Guide to Blood Coagulation is one of few medical textbooks in English written entirely by Swedish authors. Coagulation is a relatively small medical field, but still has great importance in practice because it affects so many conditions and diseases.

The editors of the new edition are Maria Magnusson and Jovan Antovic, both at the clinical chemistry and blood coagulation research group, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet  All 24 co-authors representing 15 different medical specialties are all doctorate specialists working at Karolinska University Hospital.
