StratNeuro grants 100 000 SEK for a visiting researcher in neuroscience
Following an internal evaluation of the proposals, the StratNeuro board has decided to award SEK 100,000 to the proposal sent by Onur Dagliyan at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, to host a two months' visit in his laboratory by Cristian Ripoli, Associate Professor at the Department of Neuroscience of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy.
Some excerpts from Onur Dagliyan's submission are presented below.
“[We] have been working together to establish a new interdisciplinary project that aims to connect the protein dynamics to neural circuits dynamics and behavior. In our recent work, in press in Science Advances, we engineered a chemogenetic kinase that can be controlled remotely with an inert molecule. In this study, by controlling the activity of this kinase, we were able to control the enlargement of dendritic spines in the hippocampus in vivo, and the memory of the mice. This initial study now paves the way to start new projects and to design new experiments involving new proteins, which potentially play crucial roles in different aspects of synaptic plasticity, learning and memory.”
Besides helping to set up some methods in Onur Dagliyan’s lab, Cristian and Onur will apply for multi-PI synergistic grants. Research group leaders in neuroscience are welcome to contact Onur Dagliyan if they are interested in learning more and discuss this further.
