On Friday 23 January, KI welcomed the new students of this semester. During the day, they took part in a ceremony featuring a speech from the President, an engaging student panel, a performance by the student union and inspiring research insights – followed by a fair where they could meet different parts of KI.

Nearly 400 new students beginning their studies in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, medicine or nursing gathered in Aula Medica to kick off the semester and meet students from other programmes.

The day began with a welcome ceremony in the Erling Persson Hall, hosted by Gottfrid Rehnman and Ymir Hallgrimsson, both students at KI. President Annika Östman Wernerson was also present to offer a warm welcome to everyone.

Talks, panel and fun

The ceremony continued with speeches from Professor Rune Brautaset, acting academic vice president for education, and Linnea Ammer Jansson, chair of the Medical Students’ Union, who introduced the union’s work and opportunities for student involvement.

Doctoral student Daniel Andersson shared insights from his research on heart diagnostics and inspired the audience with examples of how exploring different research projects can help you find your path.

A student panel then offered an honest and humorous look at life as a KI student – from study tips to programme stereotypes – sparking plenty of laughter. The laughter continued as the Medical Students’ Union took the stage with a light‑hearted song dedicated to the new students.

Hälsohubben, KI’s health and wellbeing centre, was also on site. Represented by Rasmus Nylander, they highlighted the importance of breaks and movement, and the many opportunities for training and support available to students.

Fair and mingling

After the ceremony, the day continued with a fair where students could meet different functions at KI, from study guidance and international opportunities to the editorial team behind KI’s magazine Medicinsk Vetenskap. There was also plenty of time to mingle, enjoy a fika and pick up the popular KI backpack.

Welcome, all new students!
