– I am very happy and grateful to be trusted as head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine. It will be exciting to work together with colleagues to further strengthen our translational research environment and create the best possible conditions for our employees to thrive and develop. I also look forward to working on strategic issues with KI's management and other departments, says Jonas Fuxe.

Background

Jonas has his origins in KI (medical program) and defended his PhD thesis in 2001 with studies on how tumor suppressor genes regulate cellular transformation and senescence. With his family he then moved to San Francisco, where he changed tracks during a 3-year postdoc at UCSF and studied vascular remodeling in chronic airway inflammation. Back home, he started a research group at KI that studies mechanisms of how inflammation is linked to cell plasticity and cancer metastasis. He also teach tumor and inflammatory pathology in several of KI's educational programs and is Labmed's coordinator for the new medical program.

In 2020, Jonas moved with his research group from the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) to the Department of Laboratory Medicine. On January 1 2022 he became head of the Division of Pathology and on January 1 2023 he will take over as Head of the Department.
