Research at Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with the Swedish Armed Forces and NATO could lead to more people surviving gun violence and provide answers on how to stop severe bleeding.

In an interview in Radio Sweden (Sveriges Radio), P4 Stockholm, Mattias Günther explains that one of the methods being investigated is to insert a balloon, a kind of catheter, into the aorta, at the height of the thorax, in order to stop the bleeding.

"It is a fairly advanced adn dramatic method, but it can save lives in some situations, if you are dying of severe bleeding, such as a blasted leg or similar".
