KI researchers receive Lise Meitner's grant for Israeli-Swedish research collaboration
A total of eight research projects share close to SEK 50 million in the call “Lise Meitner Grants for Israeli-Swedish Research Collaboration”, a collaboration between the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF, and the Israelian Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, MOST. Two of the research projects are being conducted at Karolinska Institutet.
One of the KI projects is about developing drugs against fatty liver disease. The other involves using tumor-secreted nanoparticles, so-called exosomes, in the blood of lung cancer patients to predict the risk of metastasis to the brain.
The grants will be used for joint research, seminars, conferences, workshops, and exchanges of people between the participating groups over five years.
Research projects at KI awarded grants:
Myriam Aouadi at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge is awarded SEK 3,124,436 for the project “The cannabinoid-1 receptor as therapy for fatty liver disease”.
Rolf Lewensohn at the Department of Oncology-Pathology is awarded SEK 3,120,678 for the project “Exosome analysis - prediction of brain metastases in lung cancer”.
