KI researcher Camilla Björkegren awarded a distinguished professor grant

Professor Camilla Björkegren at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institutet, is awarded a distinguished professor grant within natural and engineering sciences by the Swedish Research Council. Out of 83 applications, four grants are awarded to four different universities.

The Swedish Research Council has decided on the applications to be awarded distinguished professor grants within natural and engineering sciences 2024. The total grant amount for 2025–2032 is almost 123 million SEK. Out of 83 applications, four researchers have been awarded grants, one of whom works at KI.

Professor Camilla Björkegren at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institutet, has been awarded a grant of SEK 29.3 million for the years 2025-2032, for a project entitled "Förändringar i DNA-helixens struktur – en positiv drivkraft i kromosomorganisation och funktion" (Changes in the structure of the DNA helix - a positive driver of chromosome organisation and function).

The aim of the distinguished professor programme is to create preconditions for the most prominent researchers to conduct long-term, ground-breaking research with great potential for achieving scientific breakthroughs. 

The grant shall also enable the establishment and build-up of a major research environment of the highest quality around a leading researcher.
