KI remains among the top universities in the THE ranking

When Times Higher Education (THE) in the UK publishes its ranking of the world's best universities regardless of specialisation, KI lands in 53rd place among more than 2,000 higher education institutions in 115 countries. In the EU, KI ranks 6th and is the foremost place among higher education institutions in the Nordic region.
Times Higher Education's, THE, World Ranking 2025/26 takes into account publication and faculty data, as well as reputation surveys. The ranking includes higher education institutions and research institutions from all over the world, regardless of specialisation.
In this evaluation, KI ranks 53rd in the world, 14th in Europe and 6th in the EU. The year before, the corresponding rankings were 49, 14 and 6 respectively.
The University of Oxford retains its first place for ten years. Within the top 100 are also the Nordic universities of Copenhagen (90) and Lund University (95) as well as KTH (98).
Increasingly fierce competition at the top
The trend in recent years with increased competition in the world is growing. More higher education institutions from several regions are advancing their positions, with Chinese universities approaching the top 10, for example. Something that indicates that they are increasing their exposure in international research. Even technology-profiled universities are advancing their positions, which makes the competition at the top even tougher.
Later in the autumn, updated subject rankings from THE will be published, including Clinical and Health, where KI has a prominent position each year.
