On 1 October, professional services staff from the departments at KI South gathered for a joint staff development day at the National Museum of Science and Technology. Lectures, departmental presentations and discussions offered new perspectives and opportunities to exchange experiences across departmental boundaries.

The day began with a lecture by Louise Bringselius, a researcher, author and associate professor of organisation and management at the Stockholm School of Economics. Her research focuses on trust, leadership and governance in the public sector. During the lecture, she discussed, among other things, what morale means for people working in the public sector and why it is so important.

After Louise Bringselius’ lecture, the departments at KI South were presented. Participants gained insight into one another’s work and a better understanding of how the conditions for administrative roles differ between departments.

Discussions across departments

After lunch, participants discussed some of the themes that Louise Bringselius had raised during the morning. The discussions took place in groups of colleagues from different departments who have similar roles. The fine weather made it possible to continue the exchange of experiences during walks on Djurgården and Gärdet.

The day concluded with an inspiring lecture by David JP Philips on how we can regulate our emotions through ‘Angel’s and Devil’s cocktails’ – six substances that shape our lives and affect our everyday working lives.

Collaboration strengthens professional services

The initiative for the joint staff development day came from the Heads of administration at the KI South departments. Klas Karlsson, Head of Administration (AC) at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, sums up the day:

“It has been valuable to pause, meet outside our usual working environment and get to know one another a little better. It is through relationships, trust and collaboration that we create the best possible support for our core activities.”

“We in the AC group would like to thank everyone who took part for their engagement throughout the day and for the valuable support they provide to KI South’s core activities every day. Special thanks to the members of the planning group who made the day possible,” concludes Klas Karlsson.
