Jens Hjerling-Leffler, professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, is participating in The Cells programme series Scientist Shows Art. During the presentation, he will delve into the genetic and cellular processes behind brain development and the link to psychiatric disorders.

Jens Hjerling-Leffler will focus in particular on the critical period between the ages of 18 and 25 – the time when many psychotic disorders break out. He will share the latest findings on what we actually know today about the brain during these formative years, and highlight the most important questions that still await answers. The talk is linked to Monkeys and Crows – a thought-provoking work of art by Lars Brunström, in which animals in a ravaged natural environment reflect timeless themes such as grief, love and compassion, challenging us to reflect on humanity's place in the Anthropocene era.

Monkeys and Crows by Lars Brunström is one of several installations in the exhibition You, part of the series Me, You, We – Exploring Human Behaviour. The focus is on people's emotions, perceptions and behaviours.

The programme series Scientist Shows Art is a meeting between art and science presented by a researcher from KI. Art gives us new perspectives, and science deepens our understanding.
