Lectures and seminars Opening of KI’s strategic medical education research initiative with KIPRIME winners Brian Hodges and Jennifer Cleland
Welcome to the launch event for the KI President’s strategic research initiative in medical education! We are pleased to welcome Professor Jennifer Cleland and Professor Brian Hodges, members of the KIPRIME Prize Committee and former KIPRIME winners, who will deliver the opening talks on medical education.
In 2025, the strategic funding from the KI President Annika Östman Wernerson was announced, focusing on medical education research at KI. The initiative includes:
- Funding to selected researchers at KI together with the KIPRIME Foundation
- A Guest Professorship
- Resources for a network for researchers in medical education at KI. The network was created in 2022 and has so far attracted just over 60 researchers and doctoral students.
To mark this initiative, Karolinska Institutet together with President Annika Östman Wernerson, invites you to an opening seminar with world-leading researchers in medical education Brian Hodges and Jennifer Cleland.
Professor Brian Hodges is Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer at the University Health Network and a Professor at the University of Toronto. A leading scholar in medical education, he received the Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education (KIPRIME) in 2016.

Professor Jennifer Cleland is President’s Chair in Medical Education at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Wade Professor of Surgical Education at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. An internationally recognised leader in health professions education, she received the Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education (KIPRIME) in 2024.
