Bio

Rudolf Oehler, PhD is Associate Professor of Medical Chemistry at the Medical University of Vienna and senior researcher at the Anna Spiegel Center of Translational Research, Vienna, Austria. Dr. Oehler completed his PhD studies at the University of Innsbruck, Austria in 1994, characterizing the interaction of tetracycline with ribosomal RNA. Then he moved to the Medical University of Vienna, Austria where he joined the Surgical Research Laboratories. His is particularly interested in the regulation of the innate immunity in severely ill patients. He worked many years on the amino acid metabolism of monocytes/macrophages in cachectic patients. Then he investigated the role of complement in the efferocytosis by monocytes/macrophages and neutrophils. More recently, he focused on the cross-talk between innate immune cells with cancer-associated fibroblasts.
