Title
Breast cancer diagnosed at the interval of two screening rounds: incidence, risk factor, and phenotype
Abstract
Mammographic screening is the best method available for early detection and mortality reduction of breast cancer (BC). However, a significant number of BC patients are diagnosed during the interval of two screening rounds, called interval cancer. Some of these interval cancers are missed or masked at prior screening, while some other cancers are fast growing and thus diagnosed during the interval.
In this presentation, I will present some of our recent and ongoing research on interval cancer, based on several Swedish population-based cohorts of women invited to mammographic screening. The questions we tried to answer include: firstly, how common is interval cancer, over time and age; secondly, what are the risk factors for interval cancer; thirdly, is the time elapse from last screening informative; and fourthly, how is mammographic density associated with tumor characteristics among interval cancer.
