Title

Statistical modelling of breast cancer screening data – studies of aggressive breast cancer and screening performance

Abstract

For several years our group has been working on the natural history modelling of breast cancer screening data, aiming to develop statistical approaches for evaluating existing screening programmes as well as proposals for modifying them. I will provide background on our work and describe some recent projects. One of these, carried out in collaboration with a group of researchers evaluating the effectiveness of the German mammography screening programme, is concerned with developing an approach for studying the impact of screen detection on case fatality while accounting for screening-related biases: healthy-user bias, lead-time bias, length bias and overdiagnosis..

About the speaker

Keith Humphreys is a professor of biostatistics in the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on statistical methods in cancer epidemiology, with a particular interest in breast cancer screening and risk prediction.

Faculty lunch

Join the faculty event in Wargentin! After the seminar, the faculty lunch will be served in Ljusgården. The faculty lunches are intended for employees at MEB, and a monthly net salary deduction of 260 SEK will be made for those who work here 20% or more. If you have any questions about the lunch or specific dietary needs due to allergies, etc., please contact internservice@meb.ki.se. If you won’t be participating in the lunches for all or part of the spring term, our new routine is that you need to contact hr-support@meb.ki.se at the start of a new term, to be removed from the list. Retroactive adjustments will not be possible.
