Welcome Professor Stefano Guerra – Fulbright Scholar at KI SÖS

We are proud to welcome Professor Stefano Guerra to KI SÖS during the upcoming semester. Stefano joins us on a Fulbright scholarship, and we are excited to host him and benefit from his expertise during his time here.
Professor Stefano Guerra, MD, PhD, MPH, holds appointments at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. He is also the Henry E. Dahlberg Endowed Chair in Asthma Research and Director of the Population Science Unit at the Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center. His research focuses on the natural history and biomarkers of obstructive lung diseases.
During his time in Sweden, Stefano Guerra will conduct research on early life predictors of adult lung disease, using BAMSE cohort data from over 4,000 Swedish children born between 1994 and 1996. His goal is to identify events, exposures, and biomarkers — even those occurring in utero — that influence the development of lung diseases decades later. He will collaborate with Swedish colleagues at KI and Region Stockholm he has worked with for over 15 years.
Stefano Guerra describes the Fulbright grant as a “perfectly timed opportunity” to deepen collaborations with European research groups and foster a newly NIH-funded consortium of epidemiological cohorts. He emphasizes the Fulbright Program’s values of collaboration, cultural bridging, and scientific exchange as key part to the future of science.
